Hebrews 13:17 Obey your leaders
and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who
will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning,
for that would be of no advantage to you.
Who our leaders are is explained in verse 7 Hebrews 13:7 “Remember your leaders, those who spoke
to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate
their faith.” So our leaders are the people in our lives that are above us and
that are speaking the word of God to us. We aren’t to obey our leaders if they
are telling us to do something that is wrong or that would be sinning, but we
should listen to them if it lines up with what God says. We should obey our
leaders with things that are commanded in God’s word and just everyday tasks.
These are the people who are speaking the word of God to us so they have a big
impact on our lives and they are watching over our souls, they aren’t trying to
control what we do. Leaders have to give an account for the people that are
under them. If we are disobedient how would they be able to give an account for
us joyfully and without groaning or grumbling. If we are disobedient and don’t
submit or obey our leaders it doesn’t help us, but it hurts us.
Application
Today I will obey the leaders in whatever I am asked to do
