Praying For His Will Not My Own

Colossians 1:9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

When they heard about the churches faith in Christ they prayed without ceasing. Verse 4 says that they always thank the Lord for them when they pray. This church is expanding and growing in the knowledge of the Lord and his love and grace. 1st Thessalonians 5:17 says “pray without ceasing” and this is what the apostles did. The apostles were constantly coming to the Lord with their prayers and when they were praying they were lifting up the Colossian church. As verses 10 through 12 say the apostles are praying for this for this for the church.

Col 1:10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.
Col 1:11 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy,
Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.
In the verse 8 the church shows that they have a desire to do God's will so he is now saying that they pray that the church would have a clear understanding of God's will for them and that it would be in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. They shouldn't be looking to this world for wisdom about what to do, but what they are doing should be God's will and it should be in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Application

I will ask the Lord in prayer to show me his will for me and what I should do and I want it to be in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. I don't want it to be my own thoughts but I want His thought to be my thoughts and I will pray for missionaries that I hear about even if I don't know them.
