Three Strand Cord

Ecclesiastes 4:12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

“And though a man might prevail against one who is alone” It’s not good to be alone. The enemy can prevail against us much easier when we are alone. When we are alone we don’t have someone to come beside us and encourage us and pick us up when we fall. Just like David had Jonathon, we should have someone to come beside us and encourage us. Verse 10 of this chapter says,
Ecclesiastes 4:10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!

In life we will fall and we will have hard times so we should have other believers in our lives who encourage us and help us press on in what God has for us. Unity among believers is a very important thing. “a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Rope or cord is twisted together and it is so much stronger when twisted together than it is in single strands. The same goes for us. When we are by ourselves, we are weak, but when we are in unity with other believers we are much stronger. Also when I think of a threefold cord it makes me think of me as being one strand, another believer being the second strand and the Lord being the third strand. Or as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. When we are in fellowship with other believers and the Lord is in it, the enemy will have struggles breaking it. Another way I thought of a threefold cord is multiple believers in fellowship and unity.

Application

Today I will pray for unity in our group here and that we would be able to stand against the enemy and his attacks. I will also look for opportunities to encourage my brothers and help them press on in the call God has for them.
